Winnie the Pooh was my boys’ absolute favorite Disney character, especially my eldest son John. I still have his first Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal he carried around with him every second of everyday when he was little. His little soft blanket too…. Call me a “living in the past mama” but I miss my boys being young.
We have collections of Winnie the Pooh books and videos, although thanks to the invention of the internet and streaming Disney +, I no longer have all the video tapes. During story times every night with a wee pooh book, there would always be some sort of picnic or gathering at Rabbit’s house involving tea and honey. I wanted to try this one day with the boys and have a real Winnie the Pooh picnic on the back lawn and involve the boys helping make all the food. Well, the daydream was there in my mind but in reality, the boys really didn’t want to help prepare the food, they did, however want to participate in the picnic with ALL of their favorite wee pooh characters. They owned one for each holiday and they ALL attended this picnic party that day!
The picnic didn’t last as long as I would have liked because two little boys can get distracted quite easily. Setting up the picnic lasted longer than the actual picnic itself. They at their little tea sandwiches, loved their sweet treats and didn’t touch the fresh fruit I brought out trying to bring some healthy portions into the picnic. We read one wee pooh book together and then they heard the neighborhood kids out front and it was over. I felt defeated that day wanting to create so many special memories…… but in reality, I think we did! The boys still remember that day in the backyard and say it was a fun day. As Wee Pooh would have said…. It was our new favorite day! I’ll take the littlest moments and remember them forever ~
